Soccer is a severely misunderstood sport here in the United States. Most people take a look at the lack of scoring and think that because a 0-0 tie is possible that there is no excitement in the game at all. The truth is, the people who believe that have never actually taken the time to watch a full soccer game. Seriously, watch one full soccer game and you’ll see just how exciting watching two teams fight it out on the pitch can be. Just because there isn’t scoring doesn’t mean that it’s not exciting to watch. In fact, those who start watching it will no doubt be hooked almost immediately.

One of the keys to getting into soccer is to pick a team to root for. For simplicity sake, take a look at the teams in the MLS and pick the one closest to you. This way you can have a rooting interest and not just watch to watch. If you want to watch truly exceptional soccer, get up early on a Saturday morning and pick a English Premier League team to root for. Then, find a local bar that hosts fans of the team you are rooting for an watch the game there.
